Hanzi Explorer
Cookie Policy
Updated: August 14, 2026
1. What we use
The English edition of the Site (/en/) does not set tracking cookies by default. We use two browser mechanisms:
- Local storage: stores your analytics consent (hanzi_consent) and your pinyin display preference (en-pinyin-mode). It stays on your device and is never sent to us unless you accept analytics.
- First-party analytics script (/analytics.js): injected only after you accept. It sends one lightweight event per page view — page path, language version, referrer, screen width, timestamp — to our own /api/analytics endpoint. IP addresses are truncated to /24 before storage.
2. What we do not use
No third-party advertising cookies, no retargeting pixels, no social trackers, and no Baidu Analytics scripts run on /en/ pages. The Chinese edition of the Site uses Baidu Analytics under its own policy; that does not affect your /en/ visits.
3. Your choices
The consent banner offers equal “Accept” and “Reject non-essential” options. Choosing Reject stores your choice and injects nothing. You can change your decision at any time by clearing site data in your browser (which removes hanzi_consent and shows the banner again).
4. Browser controls
You can also disable JavaScript, block scripts for this domain, or use private browsing, which prevents local storage from persisting between sessions.
