1. Who we are

Hanzi Explorer is the English-language edition of zimitong.top (“the Site”), a free educational tool for learning Chinese characters and idioms. This policy explains what information we process when you visit the Site and the choices you have.

2. Information we collect

We keep data collection to the minimum needed to operate the Site.

• Usage analytics (only if you accept cookies): page path, language version (en/zh), referring page, screen width, and a timestamp. We do not collect your name, email, precise location, or other identifiers.
• Local storage: your consent choice and display preferences (such as pinyin style) are stored in your browser. They never leave your device.
• Server logs: like most websites, our server temporarily records requests (including IP address and user agent) for security and operation.

3. How we use information

Usage analytics help us understand which pages are useful and where to improve. We do not sell data, do not run personalized advertising, and do not use the data to profile individuals.

4. IP address minimization

When analytics are enabled, we truncate IP addresses to network level (/24) before storage, so a stored record cannot identify an individual device or household.

5. Third-party services

The Chinese edition of the Site uses Baidu Analytics, which is governed by Baidu’s privacy policy. The English edition (/en/) never loads Baidu scripts. No third-party advertising or tracking pixels are used on /en/ pages.

6. Cookies and consent

Analytics scripts are injected only after you click “Accept” in the consent banner. You can change your choice at any time by clearing this site’s data in your browser (the choice is stored under the key hanzi_consent) or by choosing “Reject non-essential”. See our Cookie Policy for details.

7. Data retention and security

Analytics records are retained for aggregate reporting only. We apply reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect stored data. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Children’s privacy

The Site is a general-audience educational tool. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your rights and contact

You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of analytics records that relate to your visits by contacting us. Because we minimize identifiers, we may need additional context (such as approximate time of visit) to locate records.
